I suffer from allergies and asthma. I happen to be allergic to the things I love most....my pets. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats! I'm also allergic to dust! I had seen the Dyson on TV and alot of my friends were getting the Dyson and they loved it! So I went out and bought it! It was a miracle to see what my old vacuum had left behind! It was actually really gross. To see what was in the bin after I had swept just a little bit was amazing! I think that anyone with pets should def. have this vacuum. My carpet looks brand new. I hope it continues to work as well as it has.

First use worked well. But dog hair would wrap around drive gear and cause belt to slip making all kinds of noises. Called Dyson and they sent out a new belt and beater bar. I don't know what they thought that would do. Same problem. Sent to service repair and told nothing was wrong. Now I have a $500 paperweight. My new Kenmore works great!!! Save your money and go check out the direct drive Kenmore.

I didn't even have this one a week and while pulling the vacuum back I touched my leather chair and it ripped a good chunk out. It is a pointed (though not razor sharp) edge that when opened, and while pulling backwards, it sticks out and is sharp if you catch a corner. When closed (not vacuuming) it rests over the wheels. I contacted Dyson and sent pictures and they said it wasn't their problem. They said they didn't have a design flaw. They wouldn't even patch the chair. If there wasn't a design flaw it wouldn't rip furniture when touched. While I was waiting to hear their decision I taped some cotton over the corners so it wouldn't happen again. You should not have to do this with your vacuum. Also, sure you can say that you shouldn't touch your furniture while vacuuming but who can say they never have. I've been vacuuming 35 years and have it happen all the time that you accidentally run into furniture, etc. I am returning the vacuum. Yes, it did pick up really well on carpet but I found that it didn't pick up very well on bare floors and not at all on rugs. Attachments were easy to use but hose was very stiff and hard to use. Handle was awkward to use while using attachments. I could overlook those problems but not when a company won't stand by it's product or take responsibility.

Pros: cleans carpets well, attachments easy to use
Cons: bad design, hose hard to pull, doesn't clean bare floors well
